New Release Versioning System

To improve tracking and clarity, we are introducing a new versioning system for our Alliant software releases. Previously, builds were identified by monthly release dates (MMDDYYYY, e.g., 12312024). Going forward, we will use a structured format:

Year.Rolling Release Number.Patch

How It Works:

  • The first build of 2025 is 2025.1.0. (View Release Notes)
  • The first patch will be 2025.1.1.
  • The next full release will be 2025.2.0, continuing the sequence throughout the year.

Why Are We Making This Change?

This new versioning system offers the following benefits:

  • Clearer Patch Handling – Patches are explicitly numbered, making it easy to see which updates include quick fixes.
  • More Industry-Standard – This approach aligns with best practices used in software development.
  • Better Long-Term Tracking – Instead of a raw date, you can immediately see how many updates have been released in a given year.

No action is required on your part—this is purely a naming convention update. The new versioning system will be reflected in all future releases, updates, and support documentation. Past versions will not be renamed, but going forward, all new releases will follow this format.

Windows & SQL Server Support Reminder

As a reminder, Alliant follows Microsoft's End-of-Life (EOL) schedule. The oldest versions we support are:

  • Windows Server 2016
  • SQL Server 2016
  • Windows 11

Using an Older Version?
If your Windows Server or SQL Server version is older than 2016, the last Alliant update compatible with EOL Microsoft software is the June 2024 release.

Upgrading for Future Updates
To receive updates beyond June 2024, you must upgrade your server OS and SQL Server or migrate to the Alliant Cloud.

Staying on an Older Version?
If you’re on an Alliant version prior to June 2024, any issues or bugs you encounter may already be resolved in a newer release. However, Alliant will not patch or update non-supported versions. To upgrade, your system must meet our current requirements.

If you need to transition your server, contact Alliant Systems Support to speak with a team member. You can also review our Server Migration Timeline for an overview of the standard migration process.
